The Mosque of the Jinn, also known as Masjid al-Jinn, stands in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, close to Jannat al-Mu’alla. It is alternatively referred to as the Mosque of Allegiance (Masjid Biy‘āt) and the Mosque of Guards (Masjid al-Ḥaras), as it marked the boundary where the city’s guards patrolled.
Constructed on the site where, according to tradition, a gathering of jinn took place one night to listen to a segment of the Quran recited by Muhammad, this mosque holds historical significance. Subsequently, Muhammad met with the leaders of the jinn at this location, accepting their embrace of Islam and their oath of allegiance, as recounted in the Quran’s chapter al-Jinn.
Regarded as one of Mecca’s oldest mosques, Masjid al-Jinn is a pivotal religious site and attracts numerous visitors due to its association with this significant event in Islamic history.
